It's Saturday night. I'm sitting on my couch, listening to Chris Tomlin as I type this post, and am wondering where one of the shortest teaching weeks ever has gone...??
Monday and Tuesday were normal teaching days, but I had 2 huge meetings about our drama production on those days, along with TONS of school documentation due on those days.
THANKFULLY, Wednesday was Indonesia's independence day, so we didn't have school. (I didn't do much on this day, but I'll post about it in a future post.) I totally chilled then.
I barely teach at all on Thursdays and Fridays, in general, but those days were cut short because of Student Council activities, like voting for the president (Thurs.), counting the votes, and playing Indonesian games (Fri.)
Here are photos from Friday afternoon. Enjoy!

Mr. Nick began yesterday's ceremony with us in the gym. He was supposed to cut the mountain of yellow rice as a traditional, Indonesian symbol of starting a big event, like our outdoor activities, although I've never heard of this and am pretty sure we've never done this in the past.
Whatever.
(In the back is a birthday banner for our school - 17 years old!)
In the afternoon, the kids in each grade could wear t-shirts in different colors for their grades.
They ran around and did different games all afternoon, and the colors made it easier to tell which grade(s) was in the lead for each game.
Everyone's favorite game is tug-of-war!
Teachers vs. students
The kids won!
I don't know this guy's name because he's new, but he sculpted his hair into a Pebbles Flintstone look. Nice!
Kids have the funniest t-shirts!
Here's Randy (and Julius and Nadia), with his funny shirt...
...and this guy, who didn't want his face on my camera. :(
With my "sons": Dedi, Tim, Allan, Julius
These guys are in Drama 10 or English 10 with me and have been my students for the last 3 years. They're sweethearts - when they're not purposely annoying me!
Here I am with Bennita and Ryo, who will be my student assistant directors for our drama musical this year! (TBA in a future blog posting)
Of course, for SOME reason, we still had the transporting-eels-between-plastic-jugs contest. THANKFULLY, I didn't have to supervise THAT formidable game!
(Last year, 3 eels escaped into the pool, and no one was allowed to swim for a week afterwards because the P.E. teacher went crazy with the chlorine to kill them, since the students couldn't find them. SICK.)
Another teacher, Yuda (Natasha's mom), and I were in charge of supervising the krupuk eating contest. (Read about krupuk here.)
Here are the krupuks tied to the soccer goals on the blue, outdoor basketball court.
A close up
Grace is concentrating on not using her hands, which was the only rule.
Vanessa's working hard on eating her krupuk quickly.
The kids look so happy here! :)
The kids in eating action!
Umm...I'm pretty sure Jason WASN'T supposed to use his neck to help Jonathan reach his krupuk, but he wasn't using his hands, so we let it slide. :-P
After the kids were done, I decided to try it, and it really IS hard to do without using your hands!
Yuda, an Indonesian Language teacher, and I had our own krupuk race because we were famished.
Here, she cheated and used her hands. :-/
More fun and love with teachers!
Nalia, a psychology teacher and career counselor
With Scott, a psychology and Biblical Studies teacher
With Helmy (I forget what she teaches) and Yanti, a math teacher
With Fera
With one of my...favorite...students, Sammy, who likes to torment me with eels.
(He threatened to bring me some eels from the competition by the pool, but I threatened him back with the fact that his drama grade rests in my hands. He believed me.) :-P
:)
Of course, they realized they looked ridiculous, but that's what I love about the students here - they (usually) have no shame! And they're still cute!
Someone's wearing his national pride!
